If there was one thing I could not live without..

..A world of color. Someone once asked me, "What is one thing you cannot live without?" Some people say things that matter most. Family, friends, the comfort of home. Some say things that touch us, beautiful music, love, laughter. Some are wiseguys and say air.

"I could not live life if I did not have my five senses."

He said that was cheating, and I was forced to think it over and pick one single thing.  I thought about the intangible things that are often overlooked. The things that people never really think about, because it's always been there but if it were to disappear overnight, the world would never be the same. I realized that if I were to wake up every morning and see nothing but gray, I would feel so empty. To live life without color is to live in ignorance of our world's splendor.  To never know the difference between sunset's golden wisps and dawn's rosy streaks. To never see how the oceans' blues and greens are forever changing. To never be captivated by someone's eyes as you speak to them. To never awe at how brightly stars can shine against a cobalt night sky. Would flowers matter? Would art exist? Would nature inspire? Crayola definitely would never have happened. What else wouldn't?

Everyone is different, I know what makes me happy and I'm thankful for it everyday. Little things, like the bright pop of the first spring crocuses breaking through winter's snow. Colorful balloons floating high in the sky and butterfly wings flittering low. Bright city lights and clear suburban skies. If they were all without color one day, I'd never understand appreciation for life's beauty. Always remember that life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away.

Money, It's A Problem

Accountancy was the bane of my college existence. Numbers aren't supposed to give you mini heart attacks, but in our city, it really does. I remember the days when I was actually good in math. Then they decided to throw the alphabet in there and everything went downhill from that point forward. I was never very good with money, it always goes somewhere and I never really know where or how. So when I first met accounting, my life as I knew it was over.

What is this?!

Such is life. Life in the city. What can I do? There's too much money circulating in our world, so apparently I have to learn where all this money goes. Other people's money. Because God knows none of this money circulating is mine.

good 'ol days when bookkeeping was good enough.

I have to pay to learn the ways of accounting too. The life of a college student. All in hopes that one day, my knowledge will land me a job where I'll earn enough money to hire my own accountant so I don't ever have to look at this stuff again. If not, then I guess I won't be needing an accountant anyway. Broke artist forever.

Shoes: a different perspective

I had once tried to fill the copious space of my mother's heels in the occasional play of dress-up. The luster intrigued my curious eyes. The clack represented the heightened stature of authority that a grown-up wielded. At such a young age, I only desired to be like what I see, not what I know, because my eyes offer so much more answers than my mind can comprehend...at the time.

As I grew up, I grew out of my play-shoes. The muddy sneakers worn down to the soles now find solace amongst the attic dust. My chromatic plastic sandals are losing the twinkle that once lit up my adolescent heart. Stowed away and stored are the actions that they must now take.

Soon, I begin to mature into the world of professionalism. Business suits have become the main attire I sport. I sometimes think back about the time I used to wear my mother's heels for fun. If I had only known at the time, that being grown-up is not on par with what I had imagined. Maybe, just maybe, I would have traded my mother's heels to run outside ... barefoot under the splash of sunlight.

Non, je ne regrette rien

Yes, every thought-provoking post is not complete without it's accompanying meme.

I'm a firm believer of the fact that everything that has ever happened to you/everything that you have ever done eventually makes you the person you are in your present time and location. For that matter, there is no better you than you. (I'm also pretty sure that I just quoted a Sesame Street lyric.)

Without our past mistakes to push us forward, we wouldn't understand the current situations we're in as much as we do now. Let's embrace all our memories, both fond and resented, and not regret them to the best of our capabilities.

Weltanschauung

Calvin is one of the most wisest philosophers of all time. He understands the little ticks that make life work the way it does. He was and will always be my childhood hero.

An Epicurean Dream Deterred

You know what they say...everything is better underwater. A very reliable source once told me, "Darling, it's better, under the sea. Take it from me." And I cannot deny that he looks like the sort of guy who knows exactly what he's talking about, so it must be true.
My reliable source.

In primary school,  I had dreams of being a marine biologist. When I realized this dream was probably unlikely, I set sights on seemingly-more-attainable-yet-in-hindsight-was-actually-very-illogical aspirations of being a restaurant pioneer. Why wine and dine on land when you can enjoy it in the waters?

Years later, I discovered that an underwater restaurant has recently been built and it is quite the hot spot for a once in a lifetime experience. So much for being a pioneer! Childhood dreams crushed!

Not that I'm mad or anything.

But I give credit where credit is due, "Ithaa" of Maldives is very nice. Not as nice and fantastic and dazzling as the restaurant in child-me's mind, but it is still spectacular.

The underwater hotel is even better.  Maldives can do no wrong.

New dream. Dining on the waters is just as good as dining in the waters.
So romantic and fun, imagine how easy it would be to wash your hands after the meal. Maybe even the utensils and dishware. Just splash them around in the water. Just kidding, classy dining calls for classy table manners.

If I can't have my own sea-nic restaurant, I will find a body of water, pull up some chairs and tables, light a million candles, and call it a day.

Oh, Charlie Brown...

I swear Charlie Brown is one of the most depressing characters ever.  Lucy is always mean, teachers don't understand, his dog has more fun than him, and he never gets to kick that freaking football. Nothing ever goes his way! Why?!

Shenanigans Pt. 1

She-nan-i-gans: n. 1. High-spirited or mischievous activity- usually conducted in duality.

Examples of SHENANIGANS:

  • Two whimsical girls engaged in youthful shenanigans of french dining, museum hunting, and two-minute tram rides.
  • Appointed photographer of the day, a certain HF was forced to accompany such shenanigans.
  • The shenanigans were well rewarded with mouth-watering macarons.
