Just Because

Dear A,

It is currently...

5 o'clock in the morning
conversation got boring
you said you were going to bed soon

Actually, you went to bed hours ago. Always retiring early. Being your night owl partner-in-crime, I am up for no good reason--but I found little things that will bring delight to your day tomorrow (well, in a few hours) when you are at work. If you check our blog at work that is.

Because of you, now I have that lily allen song stuck in my head forever. I return the favor with this adorable slice of bread, your favorite thing in the world.

Love,
Y

Dear Y,

Even though I had slept early that night, I woke up early the next morning to your delightful bread post.  I respond with this.

With sincerity,
A

simplicity at its best.

Sometimes, I sleep in class. Just sometimes. Amidst the lullaby of textbook jargon, all it takes to revitalize is a simple sentence to cut through and ring true.  Even a school of dark steel and cold glass has its pockets of illuminating idealism.  Some things are most refreshing when unexpected, I believe. This might just be my favorite lesson of the week. Too bad it isn't always as easy to apply in real life. Some things are harder to learn than others, but I can appreciate that.

The Traveler Versus I

If I met a traveler with but a dime in his pocket, I'd still consider him wiser than me. He has given up the haven of his home to explore the unknown and unexplored. He journeys out not to seek but to be sought by the secrets that this world tells only to those patient enough to listen. He develops a new "verstehen" for the people that he meets. Tolerance, after all, is one of the most wisest traits to learn. And yet, here I am, behind the dull LCD screen glare -- I hide from the world. Unlike the traveler, I've found comfort in confinement. Until I have the courage one day to desert the refuge I've built for myself, I will travel my own way. Inching my way through my own explorations, my own discoveries; I too will learn to travel some day.

HELLO

We are committing the high crime of shenanigans by creating this blog. We are very excited indeed.
